Eight games down and the Steelers are in good position for another Super Bowl run. Or are they. Yes, and no. To look at that, Pittsburgh Sports Buzz will take a look at the last 4 years in the Mike Tomlin regime. Anyone know what Mike Tomlin's record has been after the first 8 games in those years. In 2007, his first year, he started out 6-2. That's a good start for a rookie coach. They finished up 10-6, and lost to the jags in the first round of the playoffs.
I think everybody knows what happened in 2008, but let's recap. They started off, hmm... oh yeah 6-2. Another good start and they were off to the races. They finished up 12-4, then beat the Chargers and the Ravens in the playoffs before taking care of the Cardinals in the Super Bowl. I'd say that was pretty successful.
Last year was a completely different start to the season. Their first 8 games they went, oh, I guess it wasn't so different. They started off 6-2. They again had a Super Bowl hangover season and finished up 9-7, with a 5 game losing streak in the middle of the season. They finished up strong with 3 wins, but not strong enough to get into the playoffs.
So, that leads us to this season. Another 6-2 record. As you can see from the last 3 seasons it can go either way. The injuries are mounting and the loss of Aaron Smith does not help their chances. They are the Steelers though and they made some changes in the off season to improve their depth. Look for a positive outcome this year. I am.
