Charlie Morton Lost for the Season
It looks like the Pirates are going to need someone to step up this season in the starting pitching category. Charlie Morton is finished for the season after it was determined that he had torn a ligament in his elbow and Tommy John surgery was needed. The Pirates have options, but a healthy Charlie Morton is not one of them. Jeff Karstens continues his rehab and hopefully will be ready soon, barring further setbacks. Option 2 is Rudy Owens in Triple A. Owens has been a consistently dependable starter for Indianapolis and currently owns a 5-2 record with a 2.29 ERA. Owens would have got his chance sooner or later based on his performance so far this year. It looks like Morton's injury will make Owens' first appearance with the Bucs sooner.
